Vaughn Tan ID3 Fellow, Harvard University Department of Sociology, and HBS Organizational Behavior Unit

Vaughn Tan spends time with innovative groups and communities to understand how they form, work, adapt, and succeed. His current research explains how — contrary to conventional wisdom — internal ambiguity can support group adaptation and successful innovation. Based on this study, he offers strategic and tactical recommendations relevant to entrepreneurs and those tasked with managing innovation and innovation groups. He’s interested in scale-invariance and in using intentional ambiguity as a design principle for innovative and adaptable organizations, spaces, and communities.
